PLATFORM

PLATFORM

The California Democratic Party is the largest Democratic Party organization outside of Washington, D.C.

With 43.5% of the state’s registered voters, the Democratic Party has the highest number of registrants of any political party in California.

The Los Angeles County Democratic Party is the largest local Democratic Party entity in the United States, representing over 2.7 million registered Democrats and a population larger than 42 other states in the 88 cities and the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.

County Central Committee members, also known as Delegates, play a pivotal role in shaping the vision and direction of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. They represent a diverse range of voices and perspectives from all corners of Los Angeles County, and are instrumental in the democratic process of defining the Party’s platform and priorities.

Delegates reflect the grassroots activism and political engagement of ordinary Americans, allowing for a more inclusive and participatory approach to crafting the Party’s vision. They bring issues and concerns to the forefront that are vital to their communities, contributing to a broader and more representative party platform.

In essence, Delegates are the bridge between the Party’s leadership and the electorate, ensuring that the Party’s vision aligns with the values, aspirations, and needs of the People.

Below are a few of Jasmyne’s priorities that she intends to continue advocating for if re-elected to office.

A Party For Us All

In order to have a more equitable and just society, we need to make the Democratic Party a more welcoming and inclusive organization that works for and welcomes in everyone, regardless of race, gender, or age.

The Democratic Party should prioritize and increase outreach efforts to marginalized communities to ensure a more inclusive and representative political landscape.

Criminal Justice Reform

The Democratic Party can better champion criminal justice reform by adopting a multifaceted approach that addresses various aspects of the justice system.

The Party should push for comprehensive policy reforms that focus on reducing mass incarceration, ending the war on drugs, and implementing measures to ensure fair sentencing. Emphasizing alternatives to incarceration, such as rehabilitation and diversion programs, is crucial. Additionally, the Party should advocate for improving police accountability and transparency, emphasizing community policing, and supporting efforts to rebuild trust between law enforcement and marginalized communities. Prioritizing reentry programs and addressing the socio-economic factors that often contribute to criminal behavior is essential for creating a fairer system.

Finally, the Democratic Party should actively engage with grassroots organizations and activists to ensure that the voices and concerns of those most affected by the criminal justice system are heard and addressed. By combining policy reforms with community engagement and collaboration, the Democratic Party can play a pivotal role in achieving meaningful and lasting criminal justice reform not just in Los Angeles County but in the United States.

Economic Justice for Workers

The Democratic Party has a significant role to play in enhancing its support for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color who are low-wage workers, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of economic justice.

By prioritizing policies such as a higher minimum wage and strong labor protections, the party can directly impact the lives of these workers who often face systemic disadvantages.

Additionally, the Democratic Party should emphasize addressing the intersectionality of identity and income, recognizing that people from BIPOC backgrounds frequently experience compounded discrimination and challenges in the workplace. Tailoring policies to uplift marginalized communities within the low-wage worker demographic is vital.

Furthermore, advocating for affordable healthcare, education, and housing can alleviate the financial burdens disproportionately affecting these individuals.

Through a more inclusive and equitable approach, the Democratic Party can take concrete steps to create a fairer economic landscape for biopic low-wage workers, promoting social justice and addressing longstanding disparities.

Environmental Justice

The Democratic Party must wholeheartedly support environmental justice because it represents a moral imperative and a commitment to fairness and equality.

Environmental injustices disproportionately affect marginalized and vulnerable communities, often low-income communities and People of Color. These communities face a higher burden of pollution, toxic waste, and environmental hazards, leading to detrimental health effects and a diminished quality of life.

By advocating for environmental justice, the Democratic Party acknowledges the urgent need to address these systemic disparities. Supporting policies that aim to reduce environmental racism and promote clean energy, sustainable development, and equitable access to clean air and water is not just about protecting the environment but also about rectifying historical injustices and ensuring that all Americans, regardless of their background, have the right to a healthy and safe living environment.

Fighting For All Immigrants

The Democratic Party needs to show their commitment to inclusivity and support for immigrants by paying greater attention to those from African and Caribbean countries. Their unique immigration experiences often come with distinctive challenges.

The Democratic Party should advocate for comprehensive immigration reform that includes pathways to citizenship and equitable treatment for all undocumented immigrants, irrespective of their country of origin.

By actively engaging with these communities, listening to their concerns, and working to alleviate barriers like language access and educational opportunities, the Democratic Party can demonstrate its commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and justice.

Housing Justice

The Democratic Party’s involvement in the fight for affordable housing and support for renters is essential in addressing one of the most pressing challenges in Los Angeles County today.

With the rising cost of housing, access to affordable and safe housing has become increasingly elusive for countless Americans. The Party should champion policies that promote affordable housing initiatives, which include expanding affordable housing development, providing rental assistance, and increasing homeownership opportunities for low and middle-income families.

To support renters, the Democratic Party can advocate for stronger tenant protections, such as eviction prevention measures, rent control, and affordable housing trust funds. By taking a proactive stance on these issues, the Democratic Party can help ensure that housing is a fundamental right, not a luxury, and work towards a society where all individuals and families have the stability and security that affordable housing provides.

Prioritizing LGBTQ+ BIPOC

The Democratic Party must make a real effort in supporting policies that prioritizes those who identify both as BIPOC and LGBTQ+, particularly in the face of the alarming and tragic rates of violence, such as the murders of Black transwomen.

The intersection of racial and LGBTQ+ identities often places individuals at an increased risk of discrimination, violence, and economic disparities. To address this, the Democratic Party should advocate for comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation that explicitly protects LGBTQ+ rights and promote inclusive educational initiatives.

Addressing the specific needs of transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals within this community is paramount, as their struggles are often exacerbated.

The alarming rates of violence against Black transwomen necessitate urgent action, with the Party backing measures to combat hate crimes and improve police accountability.

By prioritizing these issues, the Democratic Party can demonstrate a genuine commitment to the well-being and safety of BIPOC LGBTQ+ individuals, working to eradicate systemic biases and fostering a society that values and protects the lives and rights of all its citizens.

Protecting Our Democracy

At its core, American democracy is a system that values the voices and choices of its citizens, upholds individual rights, and ensures checks and balances to prevent the concentration of power.

In 2023,  American democracy faces internal and external challenges, such as voter suppression, disinformation campaigns, and the erosion of trust in institutions.

Protecting American democracy is not just about safeguarding a political system but also preserving the ideals of liberty, equality, and justice that the nation was founded upon. A robust and healthy democracy is essential for social progress, economic opportunity, and ensuring that the United States continues to lead by example on the global stage.

Reproductive Rights

The Democratic Party has long been a stalwart advocate for protecting reproductive rights.

We believe that individuals should have the autonomy to make their own decisions about their bodies and reproductive health. The Democratic Party supports access to safe and legal abortion, comprehensive sex education, and affordable healthcare services, including contraception.

Democrats recognize that safeguarding reproductive rights is not only about women’s health but also about ensuring gender equality and individual liberty.

We need to remain strongly dedicated to defending these rights against legislative and legal challenges and work to counteract efforts to restrict access to reproductive healthcare. By championing reproductive rights, the Democratic Party plays a crucial role in empowering individuals to make personal choices about their reproductive health while advocating for a more just and equitable society.

Universal Health Care

The Democratic Party needs to firmly support universal healthcare, particularly for marginalized communities, because it is a fundamental step towards rectifying health disparities and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare.

For marginalized communities, access to healthcare can be limited due to economic barriers, systemic discrimination, and social determinants of health. Universal healthcare can help bridge this gap by providing comprehensive and affordable healthcare to all, addressing not just the physical health but also the economic and emotional well-being of individuals in marginalized communities.

It is a critical move towards mitigating health inequities, reducing the burden of chronic diseases, and improving overall public health outcomes. By championing universal healthcare, the Democratic Party underscores its commitment to a society where healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and where every individual, irrespective of their background or income, can access the care they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

Victim's Rights

The Democratic Party has a significant role to play in enhancing support for victims of crimes in Los Angeles County and it starts with who they endorse for critical offices like district attorney, sheriff, and judge.

Victims of crime often face complex challenges, and it’s imperative that the Party advocate at the local, state and federal levels for comprehensive policies that prioritize their needs.

This includes improved access to victim services, such as counseling, legal support, and financial assistance to help victims rebuild their lives.

By amplifying its efforts to support crime victims, the Democratic Party can help create a safer and more just environment for everyone in Los Angeles County.
