When is Election Day?

The election starts when the first vote-by-mail ballots hit mailboxes and ends on March 5, 2024.

I don't live in Jasmyne's Assembly District, can I still vote for her?

No.  You must be a registered Democrat in the 55th Assembly District to vote for Jasmyne.

How can I vote for Jasmyne?

I have a criminal history, can I register to vote?

You can register to vote and vote if you are:

  • A United States citizen and a resident of California,
  • 18 years old or older on Election Day,
  • Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony, and
  • Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court (for more information, please see Voting Rights: Persons Subject to Conservatorship).
  • In local detention facility:
    • serving a misdemeanor sentence (a misdemeanor never affects your right to vote)
    • Because jail time is a condition of probation (misdemeanor or felony)
    • Serving a felony jail sentence
    • Awaiting trial
  • On parole
  • On probation
  • On mandatory supervision
  • On post-release community supervision
  • On federal supervised release
  • A person with a juvenile wardship adjudication

 

Persons with a criminal history who cannot register and vote:

 

Currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony in:

  • State prison
  • Federal prison
  • A local detention facility*

NOTE: Once you have finished serving your term, your right to vote is restored; however, you must register online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov or by filling out a paper voter registration card.

Yes, you sure can!

 

Candidate Qualifications

A registered voter at the time nomination papers are issued and resident of the Assembly District or if a person who is not a US Citizen but would be eligible to register to vote if the person were a US citizen and resident of the Assembly District. (Registration requirements listed below do not apply to non-citizens)

 

Registration Requirements

  1. Be registered with the political party, as shown by affidavit of registration, continuously for not less than three months immediately prior to filing nomination documents (Applicable to registered voters with a prior registration and party affiliation as No Party Preference or registered with an unqualified party, then re-registered with a qualifying party for three months on or before September 8, 2023).

    — or —

  2. For as long as they have been eligible to register to vote in California (Applicable to new residents, new citizens and anyone turning 18 years old after September 8, 2023).

    — or —

  3. Not have been registered as affiliated with any other qualified political party within twelve months immediately prior to the filing of the declaration of candidacy. 

 

Nominating Signatures Required:

20-40 signatures of registered Democrats in your Assembly District.

 

Filing Period:

First Date – September 29, 2023
Last Date – December 8, 2023
